Autumn Activities

Well it's the usual story about being busy and such. I guess the main motivator for getting this entry done was the upcoming trip to Chile. I need to update before there's too much content waiting to be uploaded.

Our dear friends Anna, Pekka and Hannes have moved to Kotka. I assume the main reason is Pekka's work at the local hospital. So instead of the traditional "preparing the house for winter" weekend at our summer place we headed to the seaside pearl of gulf of Finland. We had a nice, calm weekend with little bit of sightseeing in the downtown Kotka and some general hanging around. The cultivated part of the weekend included an exhibition at the Maritime Centre Vellamo.

Must photo of Kotka - posing in the port.

Some entertainment also for Iines at the Maritime Centre Vellamo.

Not the usual smile.

In October I had to go and present a paper at 10th Mill Operators' conference in Adelaide. Of course I included some other important activities to this trip such as site visits in Kalgoorlie, meeting colleagues in Perth and above all spending a weekend with friends in Sydney who organised a nice get togteher at Niko's and Eija's place overlooking Darling Harbour. And it was obvious from the beginning that we would end up under the neon lights of King's Cross.

On Saturday I spent the afternoon wandering around in Newtown. I was happy to notice that there are even lazier gardeners than myself when I checked the status of our old house. Later I caught up with Anna, Brent and Ian for some dinner and later with Mico and Pam for some drinks at Marly.

The following weekend I spent in Perth where my old colleague Eric invited me to his place for bbq and beverages. It was good catch up and see that he's enjoying his new work. He left Outotec pretty much the same time when I returned to Finland.

I found myself from the conference pictures. Speakers and the chair of the session.

The weekend after my return from Oz it was time for the winter preparation weekend at our summer place. This time Heta&Hannu&Kerttu and Camilla&Makke&Sonja joined our family for a cold weekend on the countryside. Basic task such as lifting the pier and the rowing boat away from the freezing lake and emptying the outside toilet (Hannu's favorite!) were done but we also had some time for fishing, sauna, beer, food and playing with the babies etc.

Makke is ready for some serious fishing.

Hannu caught 2 pikes but the lure was Makke's and the rod was mine. So actually we caught 2 pikes.

After the day full of activity it was time for a proper dinner... and yes there was plenty of food.
